Why I love Santa Maria

The secret of a good pizza is in the base, and that is something SantaMaria has mastered. Beautifully thin focaccia style bread is the perfect starting point on which to heap mounds of fresh toppings. As a local neighbourhood restaurant, the locals in Ealing have a real gem hidden just off the Broadway.

The San Giuseppe pizza is topped with mozzarella, Neapolitan sausage, wild broccoli and chilli flakes is slightly spiced and the broccoli at least gives it the appearance of being healthy. The calzone San Salvatore comes stuffed with mozzarella, prosciutto ham, Neapolitan salami and creamy oozing ricotta cheese that flows out when cut open.

The venue itself is tiny with seats for only about a dozen diners, but with the springtime sun coming out, the outdoor pavement tables will also soon be in use. Of course, if you can't get a table, you're welcome to take your pizza away, but unfortunately, Santa Maria don't deliver to your door just yet!
